Bad weather no match for SR2S team

SVBC Sutter trainer bike race
November 1, 2012 - 12:25pm -- Ashley

Fall has arrived and with it comes school festivals. The Santa Clara Safe Routes to School Team has been busy keeping students active in the dreary weather with stationary bike races. Sutter Elementary held their annual Sutterfest event on October 19th where 260 students raced, traveling roughly 30 miles. Haman’s Fall Festival was on October 26th with over 160 racers pedaling more than 25 miles, many dressed in costumes. Two kids' bikes with speedometers were placed in trainers and students pedaled away to see who could get the fastest max speed. Lines quickly formed with students wanting to see how fast they could go, some coming back over and over to defend their title. Each participant received a small prize for trying and the top times of the night in each age category got to take home a water bottle. At the end of each night students went home with tired legs and smiles on their faces.
