Safe Routes to School in East Palo Alto

January 20, 2012 - 12:41am -- corinne

SVBC is engaged in a Safe Routes to Schools program in East Palo Alto. We are working with the Ravenswood City School District and the San Mateo County Office of Education to implement a program that will enhance safety and encourage kids to walk and bike to school.

This week we had a SR2S Task Force meeting with community leaders in East Palo Alto. The support for the program was amazing--various city representatives, from both Menlo Park and East Palo Alto, are excited about the program. They hope that our programmatic work will also enhance their abilities to get funding for much-needed infrastructure projects in the vicinity of schools.

This program has aligns well with our recent emphasis on working with Facebook to find funding for bike improvements in East Palo Alto and Menlo Park. SVBC staff members are thrilled to have the opportunity to effect positive change in this area.
