The Failout Package
Oct 07, 2008Since I am in the mood for controversy at the moment, let me add a quick post about something nagging me.
I read over at Cyclelicious about the Bicycle Commuter Benefits Act. It had been sponsored (I am guessing that is what spearheaded means) by Congressman Blumenauer.
I got to listen to Blumenauer speak at the Bike Summit back in March. Neat person, I like his ideas (and his... read the whole blog post.
Bicyclist arrested on Caltrain
Oct 07, 2008The disclaimer: Of course this is my opinion, and not that of SVBC, as it well should be. This is a weblog, not an official channel for SVBC policy. That being said, I would love to hear what you have to say on this subject, so make sure to leave a comment, okay? ^_^
Before we get into it, here is the video (embedded below), and here is the videographer's weblog set up around this event... read the whole blog post.
Caltrain bicycle ridership potential
Oct 06, 2008All the discussion in the last few months about bicycles aboard Caltrain got me thinking. What is the real potential? How many cyclists could potentially use Caltrain? I decided to a little investigating.
One way to look at this is to examine the likelihood people will take the train based on their proximity to a station. Studies have shown that pedestrians are willing to walk about... read the whole blog post.
Let's see what you look like.
Oct 04, 2008After a little modification, the site now allows for user pictures. Yay!
There is also Gravatar support, so if you use the same e-mail address as your account, you can use that as well (you can put in another address, too).
To set it up, log into the site and click My account on the sidebar. Then the Edit tab. From there you should be able to figure out the rest, it is pretty... read the whole blog post.
Another web update
Sep 23, 2008Wow, my SVBC blog is really boring, ne?
Anyhow, I just upgraded a bunch of the modules for the site. I went through and checked everything, and I think everything is okay (except Board Meeting minutes). Of course I will get hundreds of eyes searching for me, so if you find a problem please leave a comment here or over on the Get Satisfaction site.
In love
Sep 09, 2008Well, it's official. I'm completely in love with my new bicycle. She's a woman specific Trek Madone. I just returned from a ride up to Grant's Ranch (on the way to Mt. Hamilton) and... what can I say? Wow. Now I have no more need for men, or their bicycles. Ladies, I highly suggest you look into getting a woman specific bike fitted to you if you put in any higher number of miles. It feels... read the whole blog post.
Website upgrade, new address
Aug 27, 2008Observant site visitors will notice that the URL of the site has changed. We are now using the friendlier http://bikesiliconvalley.org address. Not only is it less non-recursive, it is easier to remember. Please pass it along. And don't worry about all those old links, they will go to the correct pages.
But wait, there's more!
Along with the URL change we also did a major upgrade... read the whole blog post.
Much ado about San Jose
Aug 26, 2008Remember San Jose?? That City you hated to bike through?
Remember San Jose?? The City that didn't want to open the EIR mandated bike path along 87?
Remember San Jose?? The City that spent a fortune to bring Indy Cars to downtown while they said they didn't have money to fix the bike path along 237?
There have been some rough times in San Jose, but lately, when I hear... read the whole blog post.
I'm out for blood
Aug 21, 2008Today on my way down through Saratoga village after riding down hwy 9, a guy tried to hit me in the head with his side mirror. I was feeling unusually zen, and I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so I simply rode up to his left window at the stoplight, smiled, and said:
"Hello, you're probably not aware how far your right mirror sticks out. Next time you pass a cyclist... read the whole blog post.
this week's list is way too long
Aug 20, 2008... but I'm going to ride my bike for 3 or 4 hours tomorrow anyway, darn it. I've been thinking about going up Mt. Hamilton or something, although it's more likely that I head up hwy 9 and contemplate rumble strips.
It's the board meeting tomorrow night and I just can't handle another 12 hour day. Besides, theoretically I should be fresh and ready to be insightful at a board meeting. It... read the whole blog post.
