Anonymous commenting turned off

June 25, 2012 - 4:31pm -- maiki

Our site is getting hammered by spambots at the moment, so we have turned off anonymous commenting for the time being. We will try to figure this out and then tweak the comment settings again.

In the meantime, please feel free to create an account on the site, or leave a message in the contact form at the bottom of every page. SVBC can't fulfill its mission without your feedback. ^_^

BART police nab suspected bike thief [Mercury]

June 19, 2012 - 11:25pm -- maiki

Another "pro" thief caught. Anyone lose a bike near BART?

Investigators are hoping the items' owners will come forward to identify and claim their property.

BART would then seek additional charges against Major through the district attorney's office and return stolen property to its rightful owners. Photos of the recovered bicycle frames can be viewed at http://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2012/news20120612.aspx.

2 held for allegedly trying to run down bicyclists [SFGate]

June 19, 2012 - 6:55pm -- maiki

Well, this is horrific:

Witnesses called police around 3:45 p.m. Sunday to report that a gold-color pickup was trying to run down the boys near Fourth Avenue and Grant Street. One of the youths had to jump off his bike to avoid being hit, and when he did, the driver ran over the bike and onto the sidewalk, said police Sgt. Dave Norris.

114 stolen bicycles...

May 26, 2012 - 1:54pm -- maiki

From SFGate:

Officers from Ingleside station following a tip went to the home of Irving Sanchez on the 200 block of Charter Oak Avenue in Silver Terrace, where they found eight allegedly stolen bikes in his kitchen, police said. A subsequent search of two Oakland storage lockers he had rented turned up 81 bicycles in one and 25 in another, along with 80 bike tires and a frame.

Feeds and content

February 9, 2012 - 11:01pm -- maiki

Prior to the upgrade, we had a page that listed a whole bunch of different feeds to which one could subscribe. It was kinda overkill, and we are deprecating most of the types of content we posted back then. This simplifies it for the folks who write on the site, as well as for visitors trying to get the info they need.

We do have a feed at http://bikesiliconvalley.org/feed. It contains the latest news and blog posts.

Changelog

January 31, 2012 - 10:19pm -- maiki

This will be the inaugural changelog. I am not going to follow any particular standard; rather, I will try to make it as readable as possible, so folks at home can play along.
Feel free to leave comments if you want clarification on anything. ^_^

Spam and site weirdness

February 22, 2009 - 12:48pm -- maiki

If you follow the general RSS feed you may have noticed some spam popping up. That is because the forums are included there, and that is the one place that posts are added to the site without a moderator looking at them first.

I just activated reCAPTCHA, which will hopefully curb the amount of spam accounts that get created. The CAPTCHA will only show up on the create accounts form, so if you are all ready logged in and have an account you shouldn't see it.
