Action Alert: Support two important bike projects in Santa Clara County (UPDATE 5/17)

May 16, 2012 - 2:08pm -- colin

UPDATE (5/17): SVBC has learned that Board President Shirakawa has included the language “Request received from President Shirakawa to continue the hearing to date uncertain. This request may or may not be approved pending Board consideration of Item No. 4, Approval of the Consent Calendar and Changes to the Agenda.” This is, in other words, an attempt to shelve the vote on funding these bike projects indefinitely.

Bike Parking Volunteers Needed for Tour de Cure

The Silicon Valley Tour de Cure is a fundraising cycling event taking place in Palo Alto to benefit the American Diabetes Association. They are expecting over 1,500 riders who will need a place to park their bikes while they relax after the ride.

We need bike parking volunteers to help cover the following shifts:

Saturday, June 9 (setup)
Time still TBD

Sunday, June 10
10:00am to 1:00pm
1:00pm to 3:00pm
3:00pm to 5:30pm

Good showing for the Bay Trail

I'd like to thank the SVBC members who attended Liz Kniss' press event this morning, where she officially announced a proposal to invest $5 million in the Adobe Creek Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge over Highway 101 in Palo Alto and $3 million in the Dumbarton link to the Bay Trail in East Palo Alto (a project SVBC advocates have been working on in conjunction with our Facebook campaign).

SVBC San José Team

This team works on advocacy, outreach, and fun in San José and the surrounding area. If you're excited to see San José take advantage of its flat streets and sunny weather as a national example of bike-friendly streets, this meeting is the perfect place for you. Come meet your neighbors who ride bikes and care about issues that affect two-wheeled travelers.

Join the online discussion about San José bike issues through our email group at https://groups.google.com/a/bikesiliconvalley.org/group/sanjose.

Volunteers needed for San José bike rodeo

As part of our Safe Routes to School program, we are conducting bike rodeos at schools in East Palo Alto, Santa Clara, and San José and we need volunteers to help make them great! Students learn to use turn signals, make left and right turns, avoid obstacles, and develop their balance and stability. The time commitment is typically two to three hours, and volunteers need no previous experience, just enthusiasm for teaching kids to bike safely. Come on out and enjoy a day of bicycle fun in the sun!
