Regional bike/ped funding

August 25, 2011 - 12:14pm -- corinne

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is going through the Plan Bay Area process, which will revolutionize the way that transportation funding is distributed in the Bay Area.

Yesterday I met with MTC Commissioner Sam Liccardo (also a San José Councilmember) to discuss the future of regional transportation funding streams.

My main points:

Take a look at the statewide Complete Streets updates

November 2, 2010 - 9:58am -- colin

On September 30, 2008 Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed AB 1358, The California Complete Streets Act. AB 1358 impacts local general plans by requiring local general plan circulation element updates "to plan for a balanced, multimodal transportation network that meets the needs of all users of the streets, roads, and highways for safe and convenient travel in a manner that is suitable to the rural, suburban, or urban context of the general plan."

Redwood City Working Group moves ahead

September 28, 2010 - 2:10pm -- colin

SVBC members and staff, as well as members of the community at large, held their first meeting as the Redwood City Working Group. SVBC has formed a working group to provide input on bicycle-related projects to Redwood City staff. The workgroup is being formed primarily due to financial difficulties in Redwood City which have delayed institution of their Complete Streets Commission, which would normally provide input to City staff on bicycle and pedestrian issues. Thus, this workgroup will serve until a suitable commission is able to fulfill this function for the City.
