Redwood City seeks interchange feedback

February 15, 2012 - 12:22pm -- colin

The intersection of Highway 101 and Route 84 (Woodside Road) in Redwood City is in the queue to be redesigned and reconstructed. Redwood City staff would like input from pedestrians and cyclists after considering the proposed design alternatives.

Check out the pertinent excerpts of the Interchange Alternative Analysis Study. Leave your thoughts in the comments, and SVBC will forward them to the City.

Cycling in Utah

This weekend I went to Park City, Utah, for some rest and cycling. For our road ride we decided to go down to the Glenview area, which is nestled in a nature preserve with lots of fancy houses in it (castles, really). When we passed under Hwy 80, we were greeted by a lot of water. Apparently they just decided to make their pre-existing culverts double as bike/ped paths. Ah, Utah.

Major interchange gets a second look

April 14, 2011 - 1:41pm -- colin

A Revised and Recirculated Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment for the SR-17/I-280/I-880 Interchange is scheduled to be released on April 18. Following release, there will be a review period 4/18 to 5/18. There will be a public meeting on May 4 at Castlemont Elementary School.

SVBC sent a letter to VTA in January commenting extensively on this project and the need to incorporate safe access through the interchange and feeder streets for bicycles and other non-motorized transportation. You can read our letter at:

New San José overpass design addresses SVBC's concerns

February 14, 2011 - 6:06pm -- colin

Those of you traveling past the Tully Road Highway 101 overpass may have noticed something different in the past couple of weeks - namely that it's out of commission. The overpass is being replaced with a new, multi-modal design that Valley Transit Authority (VTA) fought to get approved by Caltrans. SVBC worked with VTA to provide support for the much safer highway crossing from the cycling community.

Alpine Rd at 280 redesign

February 8, 2011 - 11:15am -- corinne

SVBC members and staff have been working with the San Mateo County of Public Works in an effort to redesign the Alpine Road underpass at 280. This was precipitated by the recent death of Lauren Ward.

I was invited to attend the monthly meeting of the club that Lauren's husband rides with last night. They are, understandably, motivated to help make the roads safer for cyclists at this time. We discussed some of SVBC's advocacy and I invited them to work with us in our efforts to make the roads safe--starting with the Alpine/280 intersection redesign.

Another packed house this week - Caltrans fills the room

December 9, 2010 - 1:57pm -- Carlos

Last night, pedestrians, cyclists, and residents filled the cafeteria at Castlemont elementary school in Campbell to learn how Caltrans will solve one of the most frustrating traffic problems in the valley - the 880/280/Stevens Creek interchange. As many shoppers at this time of the year are well aware, the interchange turns into a very expensive parking lot. For cyclists, the Stevens Creek crossing over 880 is, at its best, challenging.
