The Senator and I

February 28, 2012 - 3:18pm -- corinne

On Friday I was lucky enough to join a reception and small dinner hosted by Marvell and Carl Guardino for Senator Diane Feinstein. It was an interesting event—the reception was attended by many elected officials who have been reliable supporters of bicycling over the years. I had an opportunity to chat with Santa Clara County Supervisors Ken Yeager, San José Mayor Chuck Reed, San José Councilmembers Sam Liccardo and Pierluigi Oliverio, and Santa Clara City Councilmember Jamie McLeod.

Action Alert: Final push for SB 910

August 24, 2011 - 1:31pm -- colin

This action alert comes from the California Bicycle Coalition (CBC)

Many Californians want the health, financial and environmental benefits of bicycling but don't ride because they don't feel safe sharing the road with other traffic. Many of them know of someone who's been injured by a passing car or truck or they've witnessed or experienced a close call themselves.

Action alert: Protect state bicycle funds

April 25, 2011 - 2:40pm -- colin

The California Bicycle Coalition is warning that Caltrans may be getting ready to take away millions of dollars in bicycle and pedestrian funding.

In the latest budget deal, the two parties agreed to rescind $2.5 billion in unspent federal transportation funds. Caltrans has to give back some money, but they can decide which funds they send back. Based upon history, we know what happens next: Caltrans mostly gives back the funds that your community uses to pay for bike lanes, trails, and education programs!

AB 1358 impacts local general plans by requiring local general plan circulation element updates "to plan for a balanced, multimodal transportation network that meets the needs of all users of the streets, roads, and highways for safe and convenient travel in a manner that is suitable to the rural, suburban, or urban context of the general plan."
