Facebook commits to improvements for bike routes to new campus

February 1, 2012 - 4:56pm -- colin

Facebook Supports Bike Lane Network and the Bay Trail

Facebook is taking a leading position in promoting the bicycle for everyday use by funding the construction of a comprehensive network of bike lanes in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto on routes leading to its new Menlo Park Campus, and working with other Silicon Valley employers to contribute financially to the completion of a missing one-mile section of the Bay Trail.

Belmont gets connected

November 28, 2011 - 4:00pm -- colin

There isn't much that will get me out of bed at 6:30 on a Saturday morning. The (very) short list of motivational morning events includes flights to tropical destinations, medical emergencies, earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 or above), and waffles. I can now add youth-centric bike bridge ribbon cuttings to that list.

SVBC in the National News!

Lo and behold, Bicycling Magazine wrote a short article about SVBC's bike move to our new office last fall. Check it out in the May issue on page 38.

I think it's pretty neat. I don't believe that I've ever seen a bike advocacy group even mentioned in the magazine... perhaps it will help inspire the magazine's more sport-oriented readers to use their bikes more for transportation.

Despite hurdles, new policies are changing transportation priorities

March 31, 2010 - 11:17am -- colin

As many of you know, following Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's appearance at the National Bike Summit, he announced on his blog that "People across America who value bicycling should have a voice when it comes to transportation planning. This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized." This announcement came alongside a policy revision that puts the interests of bicyclists and pedestrians on equal footing with the concerns of motorists.

Yahoo! has announced the launch of its very own corporate cycling team. The team, to be led by former pro racer Kevin Klein, was created as a result of the high level of popularity enjoyed by cyclists in Silicon Valley. Cycling News cites an online survey that suggests 50% of Silicon Valley professionals are fans of the sport.
