Local leaders praise San José trails in magazine feature

A pair of local leaders - Silicon Valley Leadership Group CEO Carl Guardino and Santa Clara County Supervisor Ken Yeager - were featured in a recent article in Eucalyptus Magazine, in which they discussed their great daily bike commutes on Santa Clara County trails. Regarding his car-free commute, Guardino says "It is a great and healthy way to start and end each day—burning carbs rather than carbon, getting some exercise, and enjoying the beauty of the Los Gatos Creek Trail."

Trail expansions are coming to Mountain View

Mountain View cyclists have some smooth new miles of trail in their future. Two new across-barrier connections (ABCs) are planned to traverse Highway 101 and Old Middlefield Way, with a third crossing over Highway 85 coming soon. From the Mountain View Voice:

San Mateo County Department of Parks announces new trails project

Great news from San Mateo County Parks Department! Officials have announced plans to create six east-west "Bay to Ocean" trails spanning the San Francisco Peninsula. The trails will, as much as possible, be accessible to pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians.

Los Gatos Town Council gives bike paths the go-ahead

Great news! The Town Council of Los Gatos has approved the network of bike paths proposed in the Santa Clara Countywide Bicycle Plan. This means that the town can now proceed with grant writing in pursuit of funding for the expanded trail system.

From the Mercury News:

The Santa Clara Countywide Bicycle Plan identifies 11 potential bike paths that would interconnect with existing trails and pathways, making it easier for bicyclists to travel from place to place.

San José Annual Trail Report

The City of San José has just completed and posted its seventh Annual Trail Program Report. The report provides an overview of the many trail projects that were planned, studied, designed and constructed over the past 12 months. The report also highlights a 9% increased use of its trails and notes that over 51% of trail users are commuting to and from work.

Guadalupe Trail closure notice

The Army Corps of Engineers directed its contractor to close a section of the Guadalupe Trail from Julian St. to Coleman Ave. today, before closure notifications could be posted. City of San José staff members are hurrying to get detour signage up.

San Jose trails survey

Share your route on the new Mountain View interactive bike map

The City of Mountain View has released an interactive, editable bicycle map. The feature works through Google Maps and allows users to both plan their trips and share their gripes about danger spots and difficult sections of road.
