Our fantastic volunteers have Stanford Football fans biking

December 7, 2011 - 3:31pm -- colin

We have some pretty amazing volunteers here at SVBC. We know it, they know it, and Stanford Football attendees REALLY know it. This season, our army of bike parkers, led by Jim Manitakos, Rob Robinson, and the incomparable Ellen Fletcher, guarded over 5,500 bikes at Stanford home games. Many of the games are at night; sometimes it was cold, or windy, or raining. The shifts are a real commitment, lasting several hours.

SVBC packs 'em in at Stanford football home games

September 7, 2011 - 9:24am -- colin

At the first home game of the Stanford football season, SVBC volunteers parked 883 bikes, 70 strollers, and a number of other items not permitted into the stadium. SVBC and Stanford offer this service to keep hundreds of attendees out of their cars when heading to the game. If you're headed out to see the Cardinals toss the pigskin, bring your bike and put our volunteers to work! There are several corrals to take your bike.

Stanford football bike parking wants you!

Stanford football is gearing up for a new season! SVBC volunteers have helped guard bicycles at Stanford home games for years, and we are going to continue to provide this service throughout the 2011 season. Volunteers are needed to help us look after thousands of fans' bikes between September October and November.

Redwood City cyclists - help cycling in your city!

August 20, 2010 - 3:07pm -- colin

Do you want to help Redwood City become more bike-friendly? Join the new RWC workgroup!

SVBC is forming a working group to work with Redwood City staff to provide input on bicycle-related projects. The workgroup is being formed primarily due to financial difficulties in Redwood City which have delayed institution of their Complete Streets Commission, which would normally provide input to City staff on bicycle and pedestrian issues. Thus, this workgroup will serve until a suitable commission is able to fulfill this function for the City.

Tour de Cure ride declared a winner

June 16, 2010 - 4:21pm -- Carlos

Tour de Cure was an amazing success last weekend thanks to you. The HP campus was taken over on Sunday by brightly colored lycra clad cyclists on a mission to raise money for the American Diabetes Association. There were as many reasons to ride as there were riders.

Some rode in memory of a loved one who died from diabetes, others rode to show support for friends and family, but all rode to show the power that a group of cyclists can have on their community.

Caltrain seeks volunteers for bicycle advisory committee

March 31, 2010 - 1:28pm -- colin

One of the best ways for cyclists to affect the state of cycling in their localities is by joining the bicycle/pedestrian advisory committee (B/PAC) in the town where they live or work. B/PACs are also utilized by transit authorities and other public agencies. Now Caltrain has announced that it will form its own bicycle advisory committee. This is a great opportunity for SVBC members in both Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to work with Caltrain to make the system even more accommodating to cyclists.
