razor blades on brokaw.

Hi,

Last Friday on my way to work on Brokaw just after going under 880 I ran across a box cutter razor blade that sliced my tire and tube. There were between 10 and 15 blades in the bike lane. They are the type of blades that comes from box cutters. I didn't see any box they could have come from like they fell off a truck. I'd be surprised if they had been put there deliberately but has anybody else had a similar experience? Maybe it was one of the 25 people who were given tickets on Brokaw and 1st on bike to work day for cutting into the bike lane? I picked up the blades before walking the rest of the way to work.

I saw the police ticketing at 1st and Brokaw, as I was one of 4-5 people working the Energizer Stations there. You might be right, although 880 is fairly far from First. Thanks for picking up the blades. I'm surprised you weren't able to ride over them; were they standing up somehow? How were you able to continue?

A couple were bent but maybe my front wheel kicked up a blade that then caught my rear wheel? It sliced through the tire and tube straight to the rim.

I was joking a little about the ticket revenge. I doubt someone would bother. It was strange though i didn't see a box anywhere. I ride that way a few days a week.

I just walked the remaining two miles to work.

Somewhat off topic, a few months ago, I hit a nail which went through tire, tube, and rim! Caught transit into work. The Bike Doctor suggested covering the hole in the rim with my rim tape, and that worked fine (much better than replacing the rear wheel as I thought I'd have to do).

Thanks for picking them up, Matt- it's lucky that it only sliced your tire and not your leg. :( FWIW, the Lowes is right around the corner from that overpass, so I guess it's not impossible that they just fell off a truck...
