The Board of Directors of SVBC is elected to serve the membership in deciding policy, conducting governance, and keeping the organization effective in pursuing our key mission to promote the bicycle for everyday use.
The SVBC board of directors is a body of elected persons who jointly oversee the activities of the organization. SVBC's bylaws can be found at http://bikesiliconvalley.org/about/board/meetings. These bylaws describe the board's activities in addition to specifying the number of board members, the number and roles of the officers, and the board selection process. Board members are elected for a 2 year term.
Typical duties of the board include:
* Governing the organization by establishing broad policies and objectives
* Insuring the availability of adequate financial resources, fundraising
* Approving annual budgets
* Being accountable for organization performance to our membership and stakeholders
The board governs with an emphasis on outward vision and strategic leadership, and is committed to ethical, professional, and lawful conduct. Board members are expected to make a substantial financial contribution to SVBC or a substantial in-kind donation or volunteer effort. Board members are expected to prepare for and attend all board meetings, and to actively participate on at least one board committee.
There are many ways to contribute to SVBC's mission other than being a board member. SVBC is a member organization and the success of SVBC is dependent upon members being actively involved - for example in the implementation of programs, policy initiatives, etc.

If you are interested in serving SVBC in a board capacity, please submit a description of your relevant experience and why you would like to serve on the board (maximum of 200 words) to nominations08@bikesiliconvalley.org and you will be contacted by someone from the nominations committee. Your submission will be posted as your public statement for the election.
The nomination period is open until October 31st. After October 31st candidates will only be accepted by write in on the ballot.
