The Joint Powers Board (JPB) will be meeting on February 5th to hear, among other things, a presentation by Caltrain staff on changes they propose to mitigate the problem of denied boarding for bicyclists (also known as "bumping").
SVBC has been working on this issue since last summer and formed a workgroup in December to identify specific, feasible, near-term improvements. Since December, the workgroup has had several productive meetings with Caltrain staff to compare ideas and assess their practicality. More information on this is available here.
Ideas from SVBC, SFBC, and Caltrain are all converging at the meeting on Thursday. While each group has somewhat different ideas for system improvement, we think there is a good chance of creating a near-term plan that meets everyone's basic needs. In the long-term we would all like to see substantial increases in bicycle capacity aboard trains. If you take your bike on Caltrain or have a strong interest in this issue, please join us at this meeting to support increased capacity and system improvements.
