The Sunnyvale City Council can vote on Tuesday April 28th to modify the 1994 ban on consideration of a trail beside Stevens Creek in Sunnyvale. Your support is crucial to allow consideration of access from Sunnyvale to the Mountain View end of the Stevens Creek Trail and access to the Huge open space next to highway 85 this ban needs to be changed.
One proposal for this access is shown here:

A good youtube of the route is shown here from Fremont to the end of where Mountain View ends their portion of the Stevens Creek Trail:

In order for Los Altos to add their proposed street bike lanes to access the trail a small piece needs to go through a corner of Sunnyvale.
I oppose a trail going through peoples backyards as several are my friends, some land is private, it is to narrow, and creates to much political opposition to ever succeed but the following route doesn't go through anyone's backyard and gives access for Sunnyvale to the bay and a huge beautiful open space. Tuesdays meeting is not about any route its about lifting the ban to allow discussion about such a route.
If you like to bike through a Huge Open Space in the middle of Silicon Valley you need to come to the council meeting and show your support:

Trail Ban Lifted. Mayors commitee to address next steps
The meeting was well attended and ran late with many speaking on the issue. Many who live on the Stevens Creek spoke. At the end of the evening the 1994 ban on creating a connection in Sunnyvale along the Stevens Creek corridor was removed from the Sunnyvale General Plan.
Next steps would be for the Mayors 3 person study group to meet with the public to consider drafting a different more general statement to perhaps protect all creek residents in Sunnvale. The committee could suggest modifying the Sunnyvale general plan or/and to discuss how to approach the discussion of possible Stevens Creek trail routes.
The lifting of the ban is a first necessary step to allow discussions of specifics about the trail in Sunnyvale. The discussion will take time in order to take into consideration all the desires of Sunnyvale residents.
This is another fine step in a week full of great news for Silicon Valley Bikers and Hikers.
