The big world outside the office

October 27, 2011 - 12:27pm -- colin

Things have been pretty exciting here at SVBC Global Headquarters lately. We're fast approaching the Fourth Annual Dinner, which I'm very glad to not be in charge of. My colleagues are doing a fantastic job and I have the luxury of just working on the communications for the event, editing copy, and helping figure out creative places to store items for the auction. Each year, our big fancy benefit dinner gets bigger and fancier, yet somehow we pull it off without debacle and decide to step it up the following year.

September 1, 2011 - 11:41am -- corinne

A couple of years ago, SVBC joined together with assorted regional advocates to encourage MTC to create a Safe Routes to Schools funding stream to help get communities up and running with Safe Routes programs. We were successful--as a result, VTA received $4.039M and C/CAG received $1.429 (the money was distributed relative to population).

The Silicon Valley Bike Advocacy Summit comes to an end

April 11, 2011 - 1:35pm -- colin

Well, it's all over with. The Silicon Valley Bike Advocacy Summit has come and gone. It was a pretty crazy ride for me over the last two or three months. It was the first time I had planned an event, and I had more questions than answers. Were people going to show up? Were the speakers going to confirm? What should the topics be? How big does the room need to be? Where will we get extra laptops? WHAT ABOUT FOOD? IS IT ALL GOING TO FALL APART? WHEN WILL THIS TERROR END???

Alpine Rd at 280 redesign

February 8, 2011 - 11:15am -- corinne

SVBC members and staff have been working with the San Mateo County of Public Works in an effort to redesign the Alpine Road underpass at 280. This was precipitated by the recent death of Lauren Ward.

I was invited to attend the monthly meeting of the club that Lauren's husband rides with last night. They are, understandably, motivated to help make the roads safer for cyclists at this time. We discussed some of SVBC's advocacy and I invited them to work with us in our efforts to make the roads safe--starting with the Alpine/280 intersection redesign.

On Saturday morning, 17 hearty riders met under the Redwood City sign to ride and collect notes on the good and the bad things about riding in this city of 80,000 in San Mateo County. This is one of a series of rides that San Mateo County cyclists have organized to highlight bicycle infrastructure, or the lack of it, in the county.
