New bike lanes on Pruneridge in Santa Clara

December 11, 2011 - 9:55am -- rmrneff

In the last 3 months the city of Santa Clara
changed Pruneridge from Lawrence to Tantau
from 2 lanes each way to 1 lane, center turn, plus
bike lanes. The paint for the lanes went down
about 10 days ago.

Yeah! More space, less stressful!

This connects bike lanes on Pruneridge from Wolfe in Cupertino across Lawrence to at least Pomeroy in Santa Clara.

Willow Glen to Salinas

October 6, 2011 - 1:29pm -- lanstin

I am biking from Willow Glen to Salinas in early November, and would like advice about the best way.

I'm leary of 101, and was thinking along the lines of Uvas Road to Hecker Pass, through Watsonville, to CA1 and then 183 to Salinas. I've gone down to the end of Uvas road a number of times, and I'm comfortable going from Willow Glen up 9 to Summit, but I'm unsure if Hecker Pass Road (156) is suitable for my biking. I've also been thinking about going straight down to Soquel (Summit to Soquel-San Jose Road) and then down CA 1 as well.

shower before Caltrain?

June 22, 2011 - 8:05am -- bobs

How do you improve your personal aroma before boarding the train?

I live in Saratoga and commute to San Francisco. It's a ten mile ride to the nearest Caltrain station, which is no problem except I arrive sweaty. I would love to have a shower before I board a train in Sunnyvale or Mountain View, or really anywhere in Santa Clara County.

I asked the folks at http://bikestation.com but they have no plans in the area.

Need Route from South San Jose to Santa Clara

I just relocated to the bay area and I need some help laying out a bike commute route.

I live near Snell Avenue and W Capitol Expressway in south San Jose and need to commute to Central X Lawrence Express ways in Santa Clara.

Any route suggestions or other thoughts for bike commuting in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Palm Drive in Stanford to Alma in Menlo Park

May 12, 2011 - 10:13am -- timoey

What is the best way to get from Palm Drive on the Stanford campus to Alma in Menlo Park? My first attempt (based on a Google Map suggestion) was to take the bike path parallel to El Camino that goes by El Camino Park. But that bike path is very rough. Plus getting onto it when traveling from north to south looks awkward.

You can see this route at:

Santa Clara 4501 Carlyle Court to Berkeley

Good evening, I was referred to you as the local biking gurus. I travel to Berkeley from Santa Clara to Berkeley 1-2 times per week, and would like to start biking it once a week. Could you please recommend a safe route? I've made it to Milpitas, connected to Coyote Trail and made it to Fremont, but think there must be a better and safer route that will allow me to complete the journey.

Is the train a good option?

Thank you,
Alan

Routes from Cuptertino to NW Stanford campus

Are there any good routes?

Google Maps sends me along the somewhat uninspiring looking Foothill Expy:

Is this really an okay way to go? I'm not looking for the shortest distance, just something:

1) With not too many stops
2) Safe
3) Not crazy longer than the shortest route (I'd like to stay under 19.5 miles)

Any thoughts? Is this do-able in any safe way?

Here's what Google Maps suggested:

route from san mateo to San jose (tasman and north 1st)

Hi,

I was looking for a safe route to ride from San Mateo to san jose near the intersection of Tasman and north 1st.

I tried google maps and it basically directs me via the bay trail, bayshore rd and some other city roads, which I'm not sure how safe they'll be. I was wondering if anyone has a better, safer and a tried and tested route between these two locations.

Thanks in advance!

brokaw, murphy hostetter , Yuck!

Hi,

My office moved from near the great mall to first and trimble. As far as I know there are only two ways for me to get from Berryessa to first and Trimble. One is brokaw , murphy and hostetter ( all the same street ) which is very bad under 880. Its horrible at night with lots of cars going fast. Montague is the other road I can take but it sucks too. Anybody know of any other routes?

thanks,
Matt

Westgate to West Valley College (Saratoga)?

Hi,
Are there any suggestions on how to get to West Valley College from West Gate Shopping Center without taking Saratoga Ave. all the way? That street scares me!
I know there are a lot of side streets, but don't know if there is a route worth taking.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Gravel bike path at San Jose Airport

Hi,

Anyone knows if there are any plans to pave the gravel bike path that goes at the edge of the San Jose airport? (In my case the part from Hedding to Brokaw.) Seems it has just been left unfinished in the middle of construction with a very bike unfriendly coarse gravel. Very hard to ride on with a road bike. Mind you, they did finish the road for the cars, and excluded bikes from it...
