Stanford Football bike parking
Aug 23, 2012Every season, SVBC volunteers organize a massive effort to guard the bicycle parking corrals at Stanford home football games. At the corrals near gates 2, 4, and 6, we have kept thousands of bicycles securely guarded each year. The 2012 season is upon us, and we need YOU to help keep thousands of Cardinal fans riding their bikes to the games, confident in the security of our guarded parking... read the whole note.
Stanford Bike Parking on its way!
Aug 03, 2012Jen Brecheen and I, along with SVBC members Jim Manitakos and Rob Robinson, met with Stanford Athletic Department staff to review the plans for our annual bike parking at the Stanford football games. SVBC has been a fixture at the Stanford games for many years, going back to the 1990’s. Longtime volunteer Jim is leading the bike parking again this year, with assistance from seasoned volunteer... read the whole note.

Santa Clara County delays proposal deadline
Jun 22, 2012This update on events in Santa Clara County was provided by member Adina Levin.
At Tuesday's Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board decided to put the brakes on deciding how to spend $10.4 million on trail funds that could go to complete a missing link in the Bay Trail.
They had planned to discuss a process to take proposals until July 19, and to make a... read the whole note.
Stanford mitigation funds update
May 22, 2012I just got back from a meeting of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, where I spoke in favor of two bike/pedestrian infrastructure projects that would benefit significantly if approved to be funded through decade-old mitigation money from Stanford. As is often the case, the outcome was mixed, but mostly positive.
Initially, Board President Shirakawa had proposed an indefinite... read the whole note.
Action Alert: Support two important bike projects in Santa Clara County (UPDATE 5/17)
May 16, 2012UPDATE (5/17): SVBC has learned that Board President Shirakawa has included the language “Request received from President Shirakawa to continue the hearing to date uncertain. This request may or may not be approved pending Board consideration of Item No. 4, Approval of the Consent Calendar and Changes to the Agenda.” This is, in other words, an attempt to shelve the vote on funding these bike... read the whole note.
Good showing for the Bay Trail
May 16, 2012I'd like to thank the SVBC members who attended Liz Kniss' press event this morning, where she officially announced a proposal to invest $5 million in the Adobe Creek Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge over Highway 101 in Palo Alto and $3 million in the Dumbarton link to the Bay Trail in East Palo Alto (a project SVBC advocates have been working on in conjunction with our Facebook campaign).

Nuts & Bolts of Buying a Bike
Apr 30, 2012Buying a new or used bike, or considering a purchase? There are so many choices! What size frame? Road, hybrid, mountain, comfort, recumbent, or folding? Step-through, diamond, or mixte? Straight, curved, or dropped handlebars? External gears, internal hub, single-speed, or “fixie”? Steel, aluminum, titanium, carbon, or bamboo? Racks, fenders, lights? $300 or $3000? OMG! Whether you’re... read the whole note.
Our fantastic volunteers have Stanford Football fans biking
Dec 07, 2011We have some pretty amazing volunteers here at SVBC. We know it, they know it, and Stanford Football attendees REALLY know it. This season, our army of bike parkers, led by Jim Manitakos, Rob Robinson, and the incomparable Ellen Fletcher, guarded over 5,500 bikes at Stanford home games. Many of the games are at night; sometimes it was cold, or windy, or raining. The shifts are a real... read the whole note.
